The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has sent a warning message to the management of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, (EEDC).
The group, in an issued statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, accused EEDC of not providing adequate power supply in the South-East region and warned the company to ensure steady power supply or risk being kicked out of the region.
Part of the statement reads: Following the abysmal power supply from Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) in the South-East, we the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by the indomitable leader, Nnamdi Kanu, calls on EEDC to provide adequate electricity in the South-East or exit the region for reliable companies to take over.
How can our people be paying for light they did not consume? IPOB calls on EEDC to provide adequate power or exit the South-East region.
Surprisingly, the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on March 25, 2023 signed MOU with EEDC to supply 24 hours light in Anambra State. After one year of the MOU with EEDC for steady light, Anambra State is still in darkness. EEDC has not provided 6 hours of steady light in a day, let alone 24 hours light.
The power sector in Nigeria has been decentralized and liberalised. That means States, Local Government and private Companies can generate and distribute their own light. It becomes imperative that EEDC must be shown the exit door. The poor power supply from EEDC will frustrate economic activities and industrialisation in Biafra land. EEDC, therefore, must be kicked out.
IPOB is calling for steady light in the region by EEDC; if they continue with the abysmal light supply in the South East, IPOB will have no option than to shut down EEDC offices in the South-East in the shortest possible time.
